Capsule Geology

The Lisa occurrence is located on a nunatak in the Cambria Icefield about 6 kilometres south of Red Mountain, 17 kilometres east-southeast of Stewart.

The showing area is comprised of Middle-Upper Jurassic Hazelton Group sediments consisting of thinly to moderately bedded grey, white, green and maroon cherts with cherty siltstones and mudstones, which are structurally overlain by black to grey siltstones and mudstones. These are in turn overlain by a polylithic conglomerate unit. The sediments have been intruded by at least three porphyritic intrusive phases: 1) hornblende-feldspar-biotite quartz porphyry, 2) fine to medium grained hornblende feldspar porphyry, and 3) medium to coarse grained hornblende feldspar porphyry.

All rock types exhibit a penetrative, slaty cleavage striking 200 to 240 degrees and dipping 50 to 90 degrees southerly. The intrusive rocks have been pervasively altered by sericite-pyrite or chlorite alteration. The sediments may also have been affected by the same alteration assemblage but recognition of these assemblages in hand specimen is difficult.

Mineralization consists of sulphide veins at or near the contact of the hornblende-feldspar-bioite quartz porphyry and the sediments. The highest concentration of sulphides are observed at the Pirquinero and the North Slope showings, which are about 450 metres apart.

The Pirquinero showing is comprised of veins of quartz-carbonate and medium to coarse-grained pyrite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite and native gold. The visible gold is in sphalerite bands with massive sulphide, towards the northwestern end of the alteration zone. Grab samples (RR0344) from this area yielded up to 75.5 grams per tonne gold. Chip samples across the zone assayed up to 6.5 grams per tonne gold over 1 metre and 3.3 grams per tonne over 3 metres (Assessment Report 23927). In 1994, two small trenches were blasted and sampled. Five 1-metre wide chip samples across the north trench (RMS16389-93) averaged 13.88 grams per tonne gold over the 5 metres. Three 1-metre wide chip samples (RMS16395-97), averaging 23.54 grams per tonne gold, were collected across the southern trench (Assessment Report 23927). Two diamond-drill holes were drilled in an attempt to intersect the Pirquinero mineralized zone and test the continuity of the zone at depth between the north and south trenches. The main mineralized zone was intersected from 41.3 to 42.66 metres and consisted of 4-7 per cent fine to coarse grained, 1-2 centimetre pyrite veins and finely disseminated bedding-parallel pyrite. A weighted average assayed 2.25 grams per tonne gold over 2.15 metres, 3.12 grams per tonne gold over 1.35 metres, or 5.38 grams per tonne over 0.47 metre (Assessment Report 23927).

The mineralization at the North Slope showing, about 450 metres north of the Pirquinero showing, is along the hornblende-feldspar-biotite quartz porphyry/sediment contact and the mineralization and alteration are up to 2 metres wide. The mineralized zone is comprised of veins of quartz-carbonate with pyrite, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite and sphalerite. A grab sample (RR0336) from a 1-5 metre rusty band of sediments, parallel to the contact between the sediments and the hornblende-feldspar-biotite quartz porphyry, at the south end of the mineralized contact zone assayed 15.85 grams per tonne gold and 20.4 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 23927).

In 1994, work completed on behalf of 1091064 Ontario Ltd./Barrick Gold Corp. on the Lisa claim group consisted of reconnaissance prospecting, rock sampling, trenching and three diamond-drill holes totalling 600.2 metres. The geology and mineralization at the Lisa occurrence is similar to that at Red Mountain (103P 086), 6 kilometres north.
